Summer is upon us and it’s time to prepare yourself for the (hopefully) much hotter days ahead. Whether you’re hitting the beach, attending outdoor events, heading abroad or simply enjoying an evening at the local pub, looking your best is always good for the soul.

From waxing and hair removal to manicures and spray tans, here are a few simple ways to enhance your beauty routine and embrace the summer season ahead with complete confidence.

Waxing and Hair Removal

Waxing is a popular method of hair removal that can help get the summer season off to a good start. By removing hair from the root, you benefit from longer-lasting smoothness compared to shaving although you have to suffer a little bit of pain.

There are various waxing options available, including hot or cold wax and sugaring. Hot wax is commonly used for larger areas like the legs and back, while cold wax strips are convenient for smaller areas around the face or underarms.

Sugaring is another natural alternative that uses a paste made from sugar, lemon juice, and water but is just as effective.

Our top tip: Exfoliating a day before your waxing appointment helps remove dead skin cells and allows the wax to adhere better.

Manicures and Pedicures

Hands and feet are more on display during the summer. That means taking time out for a manicure and pedicure is essential if you want to look permanently fantastic. Regular care not only enhances the appearance of your hands and feet but also promotes healthy nails and cuticles.

A classic manicure involves shaping the nails, pushing back the cuticles and then applying a polish of your choice. If you want to add some flair, you can opt for nail art or French tips to create that wow factor, especially if you are off to a formal event.

For pedicures, the process is similar where the nails are concerned but it should also address the rough skin on the feet that may have accumulated over the winter. A pedicure may include exfoliating the feet, removing calluses and applying moisturisers to keep the skin soft and smooth. If you want the height of luxury, opt for a gentle foot massage for an extra pampering experience.

Our top tips: Keep your nails clean and dry to prevent the growth of bacteria or fungus over the summer. Avoid using your nails as tools for opening or scratching, as this can cause them to break or chip. Finally,  regularly moisturise your nails and cuticles to prevent dryness and brittleness.

Get a Spray Tan

A healthy glow is often associated with summer, but excessive sun exposure can be harmful to your skin. That’s where spray tans come in. This is a much safer and quicker way to achieve a bronze complexion without risking sun damage during those hotter months.

Start by exfoliating your body to remove dead skin cells, focusing on dry areas like elbows, knees, and ankles. Avoid applying moisturisers, oils, or deodorants on the day of your spray tan appointment, as they can interfere with the solution being used. A full spray tan should take about 15 to 20 minutes.

Our top tip: After getting a spray tan, aftercare is crucial to maintain that perfect, healthy glow. Avoid showering or swimming for at least 8 hours after the session to allow the tan to develop fully. When you do shower, use a mild, sulphate-free cleanser and pat your skin dry instead of rubbing it.

These three simple beauty preparations should get you ready for the summer ahead. The good news is that a little pampering goes a long way and can make a big difference in how you look and feel.
