If you want fluttery eyelashes, you might be tempted to go for lash extensions. If you’re wondering whether lash extensions will work for you, here’s everything you need to know:

What Are Lash Extensions?

Lash extensions are semi-permanent fibres. They are attached to your natural eyelashes to make them appear fuller and longer, using semi-permanent glue.

What Happens During Treatment?

There are a few steps to the application process:

Lash Extension Consultation – you’ll have a chat with your therapist beforehand so that you can decide on the best type of eyelash extensions for you. They’ll also talk you through all the benefits and the risks involved. Depending on the result you’re after, your technician may decide to use varying lengths for your eyelash extensions to create a full but natural look.

Cleansing – your technician will cleanse the eye area, removing any make-up or oils from your eyes. It’s easier if you don’t wear make-up to your appointment, and you won’t be able to wear your contact lenses during this process if you have them.

Applying Tape/Eye Gels – eye gel helps keep your lower lashes away, and tape will help hold the lashes in place.

Application – your technician will carefully apply lashes one at a time using tweezers, dipping them into the lash glue and then applying it to each lash. This may take a while – it can take up to 2 hours for the whole process, depending on the number of lashes used.

Drying – you may have to sit around for 10 minutes or so to wait for the lash glue to dry. You will have your eyes closed during this process, too.

Clean Up – the under-eye gels and tape will be removed, and your technician will comb through the lashes. Then you’ll be all set!

Are Lash Extensions Durable?

They’re pretty durable, yes. You won’t be able to get them wet in the first 48 hours, but after that, you’ll be able to swim, shower, and exercise with no issues.

Your lash extensions should last up to a month before you will require a ‘refill’ appointment. These are shorter, top-up appointments are essential to maintain long, fluttery lashes.

What Are the Benefits?

The main benefit is that you’ll wake up every morning with long, fluttery lashes. If you want to save time in the mornings applying coat after coat of mascara, you’ll love how lash extensions make you feel.

Another great benefit is that they are customizable. Whether you want a soft, natural look, or a dramatic set of dark lashes, your technician will be able to work with you for the best results.
