Why Body Wraps Are Great for Winter Skin

Winter is wonderful when you are snuggled up next to a fire and watching the snow come down outside, but all that warmth will be drying out your skin, and if you venture out into the cold which can be refreshing and wonderful, you skin can suffer from the cold and wet. So, what better way to give yourself a winter treat than having a body wrap at Cecily Day Spa?

If you miss having beauty treatments and you want to try something different, a body wrap could be just the thing you are looking for this winter. But what are body wraps, and why are they good for your skin?

What is a Body Wrap?

A body wrap is the process of having your legs, arms, neck, and torso wrapped with elastic cloths (these are either dry or soaked with a beneficial mixture of minerals and essential oils). The cloths are then wrapped snugly. This means you’ll have to (literally) sit tight for a while.

By encouraging sweating, the cloths absorb toxins and excess body fluid – it feels like a real detox for your skin, which is a treat, especially if your lifestyle has been a bit hectic and you haven’t had a chance to look after yourself properly. It’s great for stimulating the lymphatic system – essentially it encourages lymphatic fluid to circulate through your body, which pushes toxins back into the blood stream, to be filtered out again through the liver and kidneys.

Peaceful, Relaxing ‘Me Time’

If all that sounds a bit intense, don’t worry – all you have to do is lie back and have a peaceful moment to yourself. Life can be hectic, and many people find they rarely get a moment to truly switch off. A body wrap is a great excuse for you to put away your phone, lay back, and allow yourself a moment of quiet and rest.

If you do tend to feel claustrophobic, you might want to skip this one. Although a body wrap shouldn’t be so tight that you feel uncomfortable, it is snug, which may be a bit too much.

Benefits of body wraps can include:

  • Body contouring
  • Temporary inch-loss
  • Skin tightening
  • Skin softening

Some body wraps are prepared with herbs and minerals, like sea salt or essential oils. This means you may come away from your treatment with soft, glowing skin. Winter can cause your skin to dry out – the combination of going out into the cold and central heating can mean your skin starts to feel a bit dry and dull – so a body wrap is a nice way to inject some moisture back into your skin without you having to lift a finger.

You may also lose an inch or two, although this effect is temporary. It makes an ideal pre-Christmas treatment if you want to feel a little more toned over the Christmas period.

You may find that body wraps are more effective if you have them done regularly, as this will encourage the detoxification process on a regular basis. If you want, you could combine a body wrap with a body scrub beforehand – this will remove all the dead flaky skin cells from your body, ready for a fresh layer of moisturization.

Afterwards, you should come away with an added glow, and feel relaxed, refreshed, and ready for the rest of winter.
